Wedding Preparations for the Photographers

The key ingredient in preparing properly for a wedding as a wedding photographer is time and organisation. There is a lot of equipment needed for a wedding and therefore, like your first day back at school after the summer holidays, its best to pack your bags up the night before and leave them by the front door.

All of my equipment is portable and therefore battery operated, so in preparing for a wedding the most crucial thing is to charge all batteries the night before and allow enough time for a full charge to be done.

Bringing spare batteries helps with this, but starting on empty is a recipe for disaster. Also I have found that older batteries don't keep their charge as well so it's worthwhile investing in new batteries every so often.

Memory cards........... are also very important. In preparation for a wedding, I will wipe previous memory cards and ensure I am shooting the wedding from a fresh with a few 64 or 128gb SD cards and CF cards. I am currently shooting with the Canon 5D Mark iv and ii which take SD/CF and CF cards respectively.

Sometimes I have been known to buy a load of new memory cards, because I am that behind with deleting old images off previous cards, but nevertheless we start with a blank canvas as this helps me with editing, your images won't be mixed up with someone else's event!!!

A good nights sleep is also SO important to shooting a wedding, a wedding day for a photographer can be a long day, a lot of standing and often a lot of interesting poses to get critical shots. I usually end the wedding day with a sore back from carrying my 2 cameras around and sore legs from the strange squatting I have been doing. You wouldn't know the muscles you have until you become a Wedding Photographer.

Snacks and drinks are essentials for a Wedding Day as a Photographer.

I usually make sure I have a few bottles of water and some healthy/unhealthy snacks to go at. These all stay in the car so when there's an appropriate break it means I can head out to take five and rehydrate. On busy wedding days its often impossible to get a drink so again by the end of the day I am usually quite thirsty!

And finally the best preparation any photographer can do for a wedding day is to learn about the couple they are shooting. This is why I include questionnaires for you in the booking process and we will meet up in the run up to your wedding*

Its important I learn about how you want your photographs to look and the style of your wedding day so I can fit into that vibe and ensure you have the most fantastic day ever.
