Jude and Chaitanya booked me through my website in January 2022. We chatted over Whatsapp video and discussed the requirements for their day, which was something very unique and special. A Hindu ceremony over two days in the grounds of Holland Hall in Upholland, Skelmersdale. As some of Chaitanya's family do not live permanently in the UK they would be travelling over for the celebrations and Jude wanted to keep as many Hindu traditions as possible.

A Hindu celebration is somewhat different to how we normally know a British ceremony to be, that being the party was the night before the wedding day. The Sangeet was held in Holland Hall with delicious food, music and dancing. The ladies performed a well choreographed spontaneous dance for the men in the room (and when I say spontaneous - they had practiced just once in the hallway). And the men followed suit after a few beers for confidence.

The bar was flowing nicely in the evening but we managed to steal some time for group photos before departing and resting for the big day. One of the guests, a good friend of Jude and Chai's decorated the ladies hands and arms with Henna - and they were generous enough to paint my hand too before I left for the evening.

A Hindu British Wedding meant for many in the audience (including myself) it was a new experience, which made everything very magical. Most of the guests had opted to wear traditional hindu outfits including Dhoti and Sari. The Bride, Jude, had chosen 3 outfits for the celebrations (not 1.. but 3) which she paired stylishly with jewellery, bangles, headpieces and make up by the wonderful Greta Mikki. The Sangeet outfit was a gorgeous ombre style dress of red and orange. The first outfit during the wedding ceremony was a green and red combination which we remarked on as the 'Christmas' outfit. And the final was a mix of purples, pinks and golds. All photographs below.

The Hindu British Wedding ceremony followed the traditional Hindu chants, readings, rituals and parts. The guests were taken on the journey, and found themselves to be included and involved in ways they didn't expect, including throwing rice at the couple, blessing the marriage, encouraging the respective bride or groom during some of the more competitive elements of the ceremony. To experience such a ceremony you have to be involved, I couldn't describe all the elements I witnessed, but from my part it was heart-warming, informal, inclusive, meaningful and interesting. Every element of the service had a meaning and was connected to the bride and groom. The priest described the couple as Goddess and God in the marriage and the ceremony was the rituals which encompassed this..

After the ceremony was finished, guests were able to greet the newly married couple and the celebrations continued with more sumptuous traditional food prepared by the kitchen at Holland Hall. Followed by incredibly presented sweet treats and deserts. The wedding cake arrived in a stunning fashion, baked by Katie from Katies Kitchen (links below), it was a mountain of gold leaf and stunning buttercream. We took some photographs of the cake cut before the guests could tuck in and enjoy for themselves!!!

As Jude and Chai go off into their married life together and receive their photographs, they will hopefully look back on a magical few days in a beautiful location with their friends and family close by. I will remember the music, dancing, henna, food and lovely nature of the bride and groom and all the guests. They made me feel part of the family and I won't forget it.
